Johan Barnard het sy graad in Ingenieurswese (Chemies) aan die Universiteit van Pretoria verwerf.
Na verskeie jare se werk as Ingenieur in die industrie, het hy die wêreld van akademia betree en senior lektor poste beklee aan die NWU se Potchefstroom en Vanderbijlpark kampusse, asook aan die destydse Vaaldriehoek se Tegnikon.
Johan Barnard obtained his degree in Engineering (Chemical) from the University of Pretoria.
After several years of working as an Engineer in the industry, he entered the world of academia and held senior lecturer positions at the NWU's Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark campuses, as well as at the then Vaaldriehoek Technikon.
His role as a water diviner and borehole consultant has enabled him to identify strong boreholes in South Africa, as well as in three other African countries.
