A flowmeter is an instrumentation device used to measure and record the flow rate of a gas or fluid. A by-pass flow meter is one typically installed in the bypass leg of a piping system. Because bypass systems usually only use a small percentage of the overall flow rate, by-pass flow meters are usually smaller and capable of accurately measuring smaller flow rates.
